Lewis Black to show why ‘The Joke’s on Us,’ beginning at Akron Civic Theatre

I’m going to do my Lewis Black impression.

Ready?

“WHAT THE (EXPLETIVE) ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?!?!?!!!!!!”

Pretty good, right?

In truth, I’ve just spent a few minutes trying to find recent video clips of the veteran stand-up comedian ranting with the occasional well-placed scream and had little luck. Maybe Black didn’t yell quite as much as I remember back in the day on “The Daily Show With Jon Stewart.” Or, perhaps more likely, the years have mellowed him — just a bit.

You can judge for yourself when Black kicks off his fall tour Oct. 4 at the Akron Civic Theatre.

He’s certainly still a fan of four-letter words, as the clips below illustrate — so be aware of their NSFW nature.

Never shy about wading into political-comedy waters, Black has titled the upcoming jaunt “The Joke’s on Us Tour,” and we can guess why.

A news release from Live Nation reminds us Black is an actor, author and Grammy Award winner — he won for Best Comedy Album in 2007 and ’11. (Ha, you thought he could sing, didn’t you?) He performs about 200 gigs a year and has sold out some hallowed venues including Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center, both in New York City.

Says the release:

“He is a passionate performer who is a more pissed-off optimist than a mean-spirited curmudgeon. Lewis is the rare comic who can cause an audience to laugh themselves into incontinence while making compelling points about the absurdity of our world.”

Also, the release notes, Lewis Black does a live streaming show on Audible called “The Rant Is Due,” complete with behind-the-scenes moments from his tour bus, as well as occasional phone calls to the people behind the rants. (Learn more about that here.)

Tickets for the Akron show just went on sale. Nab a couple from Ticketmaster here.
