Blossom Music Center celebrating its 50th anniversary

Blossom Music Center has announced a summer concert schedule for celebrating its 50th anniversary with 18 concerts, 15 featuring the Cleveland Orchestra, according to a news release.

For the 20th year, Conductor Loras John Schissel leads the Blossom Festival Band in patriotic favorites July 3 and 4 for the “Salute to America.”

Opening night of the Blossom Music Festival is July 7 and includes “Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition” and Cleveland Orchestra Music Director Franz Welser-Möst conducting Beethoven’s “Triple Concerto” with Cleveland Orchestra soloists Stephen Rose on violin, Mark Kosower on cello and Joela Jones on piano.

At a special event, Roger Daltrey will perform The Who’s “Tommy” with the Cleveland Orchestra at 8 p.m. July 8.

A 50th anniversary benefit evening hosted by Blossom Friends of the Cleveland Orchestra is planned for July 13. “A Symphony of Food and Fine Wine” includes cocktails and music in Kulas Plaza, a gourmet dinner, a fine wine auction, and a special performance by members of the Cleveland Orchestra. All proceeds benefit the Cleveland Orchestra, according to a news release.

On Labor Day weekend, “Star Wars: A New Hope in Concert – LIVE” appears on the big screen Aug. 31, and Sept. 1 and 2, with John Williams’ score played live by the Cleveland Orchestra, according to the release.
