Do you feel that distant chill in the air?
It’s can mean only one thing: Winter is com…
Wait, not, sorry it’s not that. It’s the cold generated by a couple of princesses, Anna and Elsa, and others from Disney’s smash 2013 animated hit “Frozen.”
Cleveland’s Playhouse Square recently announced that a touring version of the Broadway adaptation of the film will visit Northeast Ohio as part of the 2019-20 KeyBank Broadway Series — in summer 2020.
“ ‘Frozen’ has quickly emerged as the biggest musical hit of the current Broadway season, smashing two long-standing St James Theatre house records since opening in March,” boasts a news release from Playhouse Square.
The show boasts an impressive original creative team, with many returning to work on the North American tour, including the Academy Award-winning writing trio of composer/lyricists Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez and book writer Jennifer Lee, along with Tony Award-winning director Michael Grandage, Tony-winning choreographer Rob Ashford, Tony-winning scenic and costume designer Christopher Oram, Tony-winning lighting designer Natasha Katz, Tony-nominated sound designer Peter Hylenski, Tony-winning video designer Finn Ross, Drama Desk Award-winning puppet designer Michael Curry and Tony-winning music supervisor Stephen Oremus.
“Frozen” was nominated for Tony Awards for Best Score, Best Book and Best Musical, but the show left the June 10 ceremony empty-handed.
Still, expect this show to be quite a draw.
The only way to guarantee seats for “Frozen” at this time, the release states, is to become a season ticket holder for the 2018-19 season and then renew for 2019-20. Season tickets are available at 216-640-8800 or playhousesquare.org/broadway.
“Our 2019-2020 KeyBank Broadway season is shaping up to be magically exquisite,” Playhouse Square Executive Producer Gina Vernaci says in the release. “You will want to let it go and become a season ticket holder now to guarantee your seats later for this big summer blowout of 2020.”
Here’s a little taste of “Frozen” on Broadway:
“Frozen” is produced by Disney Theatrical Productions under the direction of Thomas Schumacher,” the release notes.
