Mentor On Tap & Uncorked is a great way to taste Ohio-made beer and wine

What: Mentor On Tap & Uncorked

Where: Mentor Civic Center Park, 8600 Munson Road, Mentor

When: 5 to 11 p.m. June 23. Doors open at 4 p.m.

Why you should go: Ohio beer. Ohio wine. Live local music. Food trucks.

I’ve mentioned before in this space how great beer festivals are, and I stand by that comment. If you’re just starting to learn about craft beer, or if your sampling has been limited, a beer festival is a perfect opportunity to expand your palate. The brewers and volunteers can help guide you to a brew you’ll like. Once you find a style that is, well, your style, you can seek out more like it from the dozens of other breweries that will be at the festival. Don’t like what you’ve tasted? You can dump it, free of judgment.

Note the “uncorked” part of this festival refers to wine. Ohio vintners also will be part of the event. If you’re a wine person, you can approach your wine tasting the same way.

How much: $35 in advance or $45 at the door. Tickets include a tasting glass and 10 tasting tickets. Designated-driver tickets are $10. If you don’t have a DD in your group or to pick you up afterward, you can consider Uber, Lyft or a taxi service for your transportation.
