Happy 222nd birthday, Cleveland

Seems like just yesterday, Cleveland was marking its bicentennial and now we’re already gearing up to say happy 222nd birthday!

A Founders’ Day celebration is set for noon to 2 p.m. July 20 on Wade Oval in University Circle.

There will be free cake and ice cream along with fun activities like bounce houses, face painting, a bubble show presented by Dr. UR Awesome, interactive activities from the Cleveland History Center, and rides on the Euclid Beach Boys Rocket Ship Car.

Also returning this year are solar car races, sponsored by Motorcars. Using a kit, kids can construct and decorate “cars” made out of aluminum cans. Then, they’ll race the cars on a race track set up on the Wade Oval stage for the opportunity to win prizes, according to a news release. Solar car kits can be picked up at the University Circle Inc. office (10831 Magnolia Drive) now through Friday morning.
