What: Painesville Township’s Master Pizza is one of the last remaining holdovers from the original chain that once was so successful.
Where: 1640 Mentor Ave., Painesville Township
When it’s open: 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday; 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday; noon to 9 p.m. Sunday.
Why you should go: It’s locally owned and operated, using the same Master Pizza recipes that have been around since 1955. It’s old-school.
What you should eat/drink: The appetizer combo ($6.95) was a pretty good value and consisted of onion rings, mozzarella sticks, chicken tenders and mushrooms. The mushrooms were the highlight, and the onion rings a close second, but nothing was bad.
The deluxe pizza ($17.95), has pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms, onions, green peppers, black olives and (if you want) anchovies. Master Pizza has maintained a master hand at pizza sausage. It seems really fresh, not overly greasy, and super flavorful.
