What: The stage adaptation of “Parallel Lives”
Where: Chagrin Valley Little Theatre’s River Street Playhouse, 40 River St., Chagrin Falls
When: Nov. 23 through Dec. 8. Showtimes are 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and a matinee is scheduled for 2 p.m. Dec. 2.
Why you should go: CVLT makes its pitch in a news release:
Starring Yvonne E. Pilarczyk and Lisa Freebairn, PARALLEL LIVES details the absurdity of modern womanhood through a series of vignettes and monologues that deal with topics such as death, sex, and religion. In the course of the show, each actress plays over a dozen characters – males, females, children at church camp, winged Supreme Beings, menstruating co-workers, Shakespeare’s women, and more.
“The biggest challenge is trying to stay as much out of the actors’ way as possible,” says director Barbara L. Rhoades. “They are responsible for breathing life into all of (Kathy) Najimy and (Mo) Gaffney’s characters; I just give them the parameters. PARALLEL LIVES is a tour de force for both Vonnie and Lisa. It’s playful, irreverent, totally free-form, and has an element of the unexpected in every scene.”
How much: $13, available at CVLT.org, by phone at 440-247-8955, or at the Box Office at 40 River St. from 1 to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
