Hootie & the Blowfish set July date at Blossom with Barenaked Ladies

Remember the days when we thought Darius Rucker, now a country-music star, was some dude named Hootie and the rest of the guys in his rock band were The Blowfish?

Man, simpler times.

Also, that was a long time ago, Rucker in the last decade and a half charting nine No. 1 singles on country radio.

Well, Hootie & the Blowfish are set to blow again.

The band responsible for 1990s rock-radio hits “Hold My Hand,” “Only Wanna Be With You” and “Let Her Cry” (clearly their best song, BTW) has just announced a reunion and tour.

That jaunt — the “Group Therapy Tour,” with a fine opening act in Canada’s Barenaked Ladies — is slated to land in Northeast Ohio July 26 at Blossom Music Center in Cuyahoga Falls.
Here’s some info from a news release from concert promoter Live Nation:

The band formed by Mark Bryan, Dean Felber, Darius Rucker and Jim “Soni” Sonefeld during their time as students at the University of South Carolina will visit 44 cities on the tour produced by Live Nation, kicking off Thursday, May 30 in Virginia Beach, Virginia and wrapping Friday, Sept. 13 with a Columbia, South Carolina homecoming.

Tickets to the general public go on sale Dec. 7 at Live Nation.com.

Stream of the week: I’m going to stick with a South Carolina theme for this one. I’ve been steadily returning to “Carolina Confessions,” the latest release from bluesy Americana act The Marcus King Band, led by Greenville native King, a singer and guitarist. The song that first jumps at you is the second track, the catchy-and-heartfelt “Goodbye Carolina.” Check out this solid performance of the cut:
