Author Jerry Darkes offers tips and tricks for tying flies for steelhead trout fishing in a series of three workshops at the Carriage Barn at Vermilion River Reservation of Lorain County Metro Parks at 51211 North Ridge Road in Vermilion.
Darkes has plied the waters for more than 40 years. Come willing to learn, and bring a fish story to swap.
* Session one: 6-8 p.m. Jan. 31; Presentation of steelhead flies for the area and overview of fly-tying tools, materials and techniques.
* Session two: 6-8 p.m. Feb. 7; Practice basic fly-tying techniques, learn about pattern templates and variations.
* Session three: 6-8 p.m. Feb. 21; Learn egg and nymph designs, and how to fish with flies and adjust size and color for water conditions.
