Whether winter hit as hard as you expected or worse, February is a time to turn thoughts to spring at Schoepfle Gardens at 11106 Market St. in Birmingham.
Schoepfle Gardens is a part of Lorain County Metro Parks, and weekly walks to view perpetually changing formal gardens and breathtaking natural vistas are highly recommended.

Here are some early opportunities:

  • First Flowers Walks are 10 a.m. Feb. 21 or 23, depending on the weather. A handful of species may be in bloom. In case of snow, an alternative is to talk about winter garden highlights.
  • The Life of Otto Schoepfle honors the founder of Schoepfle Gardens with a retrospective talk, tour of the house and possibly a garden walk. Pre-register at www.metroparks.cc or call 440-458-5121.
  • Seed starting indoors begins at 10 a.m. March 30 for children and 1 p.m. March 30 for adults to Log off and Plant On. Pre-register at www.metroparks.cc or call 440-458-5121.
