On May 4, Playhouse Square will host a day of theater and activities for Cleveland through Family Theater Day, presented by University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital.
Family Theater Day, according to a Playhouse Square news release, “offers children and families the opportunity to experience unique live performances and activities, and enjoy the excitement of a visit to downtown Cleveland in a fun, welcoming environment.”
In addition to the ticketed theater performances, Playhouse Square offers crafts and additional experiences for free, the release states. Children of all ages can enjoy “Abracadabra! Kids Learn Magic,” an interactive installation that explores the world of magic, and they can dance along with the family-friendly band Recess Monkey.
There also will be a photo booth, balloon and caricature artists, face painters and more waiting to delight and entertain, the release states.
Tickets for Family Theater Day performances are on sale at the Playhouse Square Ticket Office, 1510 Euclid Ave., at playhousesquare.org/familytheaterday or at 216-241-6000. Tickets for each performance are $10 to 15. Tickets for free activities are not required.
Here are the 2019 Family Theater Day Performances, taken straight from the news release:

One thing that distinguishes Bishop is his virtuosity. Each show features award-winning sleight of hand, exclusive grand illusions and close-up magic projected onto a huge movie screen. Twenty Thousand Leagues Under The Sea
Twenty Thousand Leagues Under The Sea is the stage adaptation of the classic Jules Verne Sci-Fi adventure, exploring the power of nature and the nature of power. Plunge into a multisensory experience with unforgettable characters, eye-popping projections and interactive audience technology. This family-friendly show encourages us to connect for the future. Join us aboard the Nautilus, on an unforgettable ride to the depths of the sea…and the edge of your seat.
Shh! We Have a Plan
Based on the Chris Haughton book of the same name, Shh! We Have a Plan is a nonverbal tale featuring magic, music and puppetry. Follow the delightful and surprising journey of some madcap characters, each of whom has a plan to capture a beautiful bird perched high in a tree.
Sounds simple, but the quest soon becomes an obsession and the obsession becomes the absurd. Where will it all end? Join us as the characters learn to love and look after nature while discovering that perhaps freedom and kindness are more important than getting what you want at any cost. Prepare to be enchanted and amazed by this exciting theatrical adventure for young children!
This performance is non-verbal.
