Have you ever wondered why so many people in Northeastern Ohio have little boats on top of their vehicles and they seem to be going here, there and everywhere?
Lorain County Metro Parks offers beginner kayak and standup paddleboard (SUP) classes, and floats for people to enjoy the water safely together, according to a website at www.metroparks.cc.
For example, the next Kayak level 1 class is from 9am to noon May 22 at Wellington Reservation at 535 Jones Road in Wellington. The cost is $50, and individuals under age 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Pre-register by May 15 on the website.
The class covers kayak words, basic strokes, safety and demonstrations of rescues.
Then, six Kayak floats are scheduled for this summer: 9-11 a.m. July 24 at Wellington Reservation; 5-8 p.m. August 5 at Vermilion River public launch; 5-8 p.m. August 21 at Black River Reservation French Creek launch; 9 a.m. to noon Sept. 11 at Vermilion River public launch; 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sept. 23 at Old Woman’s Creek in Huron (Call Kayla at 440-219-7873 for details.); and 9 a.m. to noon Oct. 4 at Black River Reservation French Creek launch.
