After summer departs, ‘SUMMER’ arrives at Playhouse Square to start Broadway Series

Sure, we need to experience “The Lion King” once again first — that enduring musical is about to set up shop at Playhouse Square for about a month — but the launching of the next big season of Broadway shows in the theater district is right around the corner.

In fact, tickets have just gone on sale for “SUMMER: The Donna Summer Musical,” which opens the 2019-2020 KeyBank Broadway Series at Playhouse Square with performances Oct. 8 through 27.

A news release from Playhouse Square notes it will be the site of the official tour press opening for the national tour of the tour. Following the Cleveland opening, “SUMMER: The Donna Summer Musical” will travel to more than 20 U.S. cities, including Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, Denver, Miami, Seattle, Baltimore, Boston and Atlanta.

More from the release about the show:

She was a girl from Boston with a voice from heaven, who shot through the stars from gospel choir to dance floor diva. But what the world didn’t know was how Donna Summer risked it all to break through barriers, becoming the icon of an era and the inspiration for every music diva who followed. With a score featuring more than 20 of Summer’s classic hits including “Love to Love You Baby,” “Bad Girls” and “Hot Stuff,” this electric experience is a moving tribute to the voice of a generation.

“SUMMER” will play the Connor Palace at Playhouse Square for 24 performances, with how times being 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays Fridays, 1:30 and 7:30 p.m. Saturdays.
