Empty Bowls by the Lake aims to combat hunger

Handmade bowls created and donated share a cause: to combat hunger in Northern Ohio.

A fundraiser is 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 12 at the American Legion Post 211, 31972 Walker Road in Avon Lake. It benefits Second Harvest Food Bank of North Central Ohio, Community Resource Services and Lorain County Community College Commodore Cupboard food bank.

The eighth annual event begins by collecting an expected 750 donated bowls made by high school and college students and area potters.

Attendees choose a bowl and then fill it from among 24 soups prepared and donated by local chefs and restaurants.

The cost is a $20 donation for adults and a $5 donation for children.

Raffles and live music add to the experience.
