That familiar squeeze is almost here.
The event, running from noon to 9 p.m. and featuring all-day jamming and dancing to the sounds of 60 accordions on two stages, making the event “the Woodstock of Polka Music,” accordion (get it?) to a news release from the Polka Hall. (Meh. What do you know about funny?)
Says the release:
Enjoy the grandest festival of button accordion music in North America. Bring your own box and play along. Indulge in nationality treats, such as smoked Slovenian sausage, savory roast beef and strudel. Pick up a souvenir tee-shirt, sweatshirt, babushka or polka CD at the Polka Hall of Fame pop-up shop.
Fourteen button box groups and artists are slated to play in two dance halls, and there will be polka jamming in the annex. At 3 p.m,, meet the winners of the Polka Hall of Fame button box awards, Joe Grkman Jr. and Ron Likovic and Friends. They’ll appear on the main stage, followed by an All-Star show of Cleveland-Style Polka entertainers. Featured performers, according to the release, will include Canada’s Mary Lou Downs, Magic Buttons, Patty C and the Guys, The Hoboes, The Fairport, Jammers, Kathy Hlad, Frank and Darryl Valencic, Joe Godina, Ray Kovac, Anthony Culkar and Rob DeBlander.
Food and beverages will be available.
Admission is $10, but those 18 and under are free. The release states advance tickets are recommended. Order them from the Polka Hall of Fame, 605 E. 222nd St., Euclid, which is open 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. Call 216-61-3263 for more information.
